Admiral Nurse Service Launched In North Tyneside

admiralnurseAn Admiral Nurse service has been launched in North Tyneside and Rachel Watson has been appointed as the Admiral Nurse. The service will be operated as a partnership between Dementia UK, the Ballinger Trust and Age UK North Tyneside (AUKNT), and sits at the heart of AUKNT’s Dementia Service.

Residents of North Tyneside who have dementia and their family carer can be referred to the service by emailing ageuknorthtyneside@nhs.net or calling 0191 280 8484 (ask for Dementia Service).

The Dementia Service is being launched on Thursday 28 April at the Linskill Centre, Linskill Terrace in North Shields starting at 9.45am and finishing at 12.30pm. Admiral Nurse Rachel Watson will be introduced at the event, and Hilda Hayo, Chief Admiral Nurse and CEO Dementia UK will address the audience. People living with dementia and carers are welcome to attend; please contact Jane Lamont, Dementia Services Manager on 0191 280 8484 for further information.

The Admiral Nurse service is part of a wider Dementia Service, which hosts Memory Cafes in Whitley Bay and Killingworth to enable people with dementia and their carers to mix and mingle. As well as activity groups across North Tyneside, the Dementia Service provides courses where people can take part in group activities to learn coping mechanisms; and there are Peer Support meetings, where people can support each other. There is also a Dementia Garden, which is a place for various groups to get involved in cultivating or simply enjoy the changing seasons.
