103 Celebrations For Local Care Home Resident

Celebrations have been in full swing at Hickathrift House Care Home, located in Marshland St James, Wisbech, as one of its residents reaches her 103rd birthday at the end of September.

Norah was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she celebrated her birthday in style, making her the oldest resident at Hickathrift House Care Home. A baileys reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday lunch made by the home’s chef Nicci Groves. After the meal, Norah and her loved ones enjoyed a very special visit from Brenda and her therapy pony Darwin, one of Norah’s favourite visitors.

Norah was born in Folkstone, Kent and joined the WREN, Women’s Royal Naval Service after leaving school. She met her husband, Reginald while in the WREN and he in the navy and got married in 1944 in Egypt. Norah loved taking care of her two children and grandchildren before coming to Hickathrift House Care Home, where she is enjoying a new chapter of her life. At Hickathrift House, Norah adores the various animal therapy activities, and musical entertainment.

The birthday girl, Norah said,
“It’s been such a lovely day. Thank you all for making it so special, especially getting Darwin to come see me again. I think the secret to long life is the love of my family”.

Paula Colman, General Manager of Barchester Hickathrift House said:
“We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone. Norah is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more”.
