Tea With Theresa: Sunrise Of Sonning Residents Meet Prime Minister

Residents from Sunrise Senior Living of Sonning care home had tea with Prime Minister, Theresa May, last Saturday, at a village party event in Charvil.

Theresa May, who is MP for Maidenhead, was at the annual gathering of local senior citizens with husband Phillip, and spoke to residents while enjoying tea with sandwiches and delicious cakes. She also showed off her dance moves by jiving with guests during an Elvis tribute performance.

Theresa May often attends Sunday services at St. Andrews Church in Sonning, and has previously handed out raffle prizes at the Sonning Village Show, but her appearance at the Charvil tea party came as a complete surprise to the party guests.

Politics enthusiast Margaret Wright was the most excited Sunrise resident to meet the Prime Minister. Margaret, who has great historical knowledge of previous UK leaders, wanted to meet Theresa May as part of Sunrise’s ‘Wish Upon A Star’ programme, through which staff try to fulfil the wishes of residents.

Theresa May’s surprise visit comes only two weeks after Hollywood superstar George Clooney turned up unannounced at the Sunrise of Sonning front door, to greet 87 year-old resident Pat Adams with flowers and a card. That, too, had been the result of newsletter articles and letters sent out as part of the Sunrise ‘Wish Upon A Star’ initiative.

After a famous fortnight for the care home, residents and staff are now plotting their next star-studded surprise.
