Table Tennis Champ Offers Top Tips To Dementia Home Residents

Table-TennisResidents at a Lymington dementia care home are set to play some friendly table tennis this summer with a rising star of the sport.

Fourteen-year-old Matthew Daish, one of the top players in England for his age, will share tips and offer gentle practice during visits to Linden House in the town.

It follows an agreement with home owners Colten Care who are helping towards Matthew’s travel and coaching costs this year.

Linden House Home Manager Ruth Wildman said: “This will be great fun for our residents. They will love the chance to meet Matthew, see his skills in action and learn some tips for themselves. We’re even planning to hold a tongue-in-cheek ‘Challenge Matthew’ competition.”

Lymington-based Matthew already has a connection with Colten Care having sung in the St Thomas’ Church choir on visits to homes run by the family-owned provider, including Linden House.

He started playing table tennis aged six and became an under-11 national champion in 2012. He is currently the under-15 Hampshire county champion and a senior doubles champion.

In the Bournemouth league Matthew holds the under-15, under-18 and Premier Division titles. With ambitions to play in the Commonwealth Games and Olympics, he trains for up to 15 hours a week.

Matthew, whose playing kit will feature the Colten Care logo, said: “I am very grateful to Colten Care for their generous support. It will enable me to enter more tournaments, receive better training and develop as a player. Colten Care cares – thank you!”
