Welsh Legend Max Boyce Brings Laughter and Song to Newtown Care Home
Residents at The Oaks care home in Newtown, Powys enjoyed a truly memorable day when Welsh entertainer, singer-songwriter and comedian Max Boyce dropped in for an afternoon of music, laughter and conversation.
The much-loved performer, famed for his iconic rugby anthems and warm humour, spent time chatting with residents, sharing stories from his career and joining in the fun, creating moments that will be cherished by all who were there.
Staff and residents alike were delighted by the visit, with many singing along and reminiscing as Max brought his unmistakable charm to the home. It was, quite literally, an afternoon where spirits were lifted and smiles were in full voice – proving that “we all had a grand slam” of a day.
The visit struck a particularly emotional chord, with residents enjoying the chance to meet such a celebrated Welsh figure up close. For many, it was a trip down memory lane, with echoes of “Hymns and Arias” filling the room as laughter and music flowed.
Cheryl Morris who works at The Oaks wrote a very special song for Max, and plucked up the courage to sing it to him, accompanied by her guitar. She said: “I wanted to make Max feel special and I think he really enjoyed the song, he certainly joined in the chorus even though he was supposed to be saving his voice for his next concert!”
Jennifer Roberts, home manager at The Oaks, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to welcome Max to The Oaks. It’s not every day you have a Welsh legend walk through the door, and he was everything you would hope for warm, funny and incredibly generous with his time.
“The joy on our residents’ faces said it all. Moments like this are so important, creating meaningful experiences and lasting memories. It really was a special day for everyone, and one we will be talking about for a long time to come.”
