Stockton-On-Tees Care Home Visited By Deputy Mayor To Celebrate Being Rated ‘Good’ By The CQC

A care home in Stockon-on-Tees, operated by Milewood, is celebrating after being rated as ‘Good’ following its latest inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Beechwood House, situated in Norton, is a five-bed residential service supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autistic people. It was commended for its inclusion, equality and respecting people’s diversity in everyday practice and its dedication to offering support to enable residents to live as independently as possible.

Stockton on Tees deputy mayor, Cllr Bob Cook visited the home to see for himself the great work being done and to meet staff and residents.

The Beechwood House inspection noted that ‘people were very positive about the quality of care’ and ‘staff actively supported people to develop their skills needed to live more independently and reach their full potential.’

One resident told the inspector: ‘I can’t fault them, we have worked well together and now I can go out by myself which is wonderful.’ Another resident said: ‘All the staff are lovely and look after me well.’

Relatives shared that staff were very caring and supporting towards the residents, who also said that they felt listened to and consulted around how their care and support should be provided.

In a letter to Beechwood local MP Chris McDonald wrote: ‘I am pleased to congratulate you on being awarded a ‘Good’ rating in your report from the Care Quality Commission. Learning that your residents are actively encouraged to take part in events such as the LGBTQ+ forum, and your commitment to making the home comfortable, accessible and inclusive, tells me your home is built on respect and inclusivity.’

Registered manager, Laura Stokes and her team have worked hard over the last 12 months to strengthen the service. The next aim for the home is to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ rating.

Martyn Heginbotham, chief executive for Milewood Individual Care and Support said: “We are delighted with the outcome of this inspection and a massive congratulations to the team at Beechwood who have gone above and beyond and created a safe and supportive environment to help our residents thrive and grow in confidence. This ‘Good’ rating reinforces the positive impact our support is having on their lives, and we continuously strive to achieve this.”
