Staff Members At Coventry Home Mark Combined Work Service Of 20 Years

Two colleagues at a Coventry home marked their long services combining to a total of 20 years.

Susan Miller and Yvonne Lynch both work as care assistants at MHA Charnwood House and marked 10 years’ service each.

Susan joined MHA Charnwood House two years ago after the closure of MHA Allesley Hall, where she spent eight years.

Yvonne retired early this year but has remained on bank offering all round support with care, domestic, laundry, kitchen and activities.

To celebrate their achievement, home manager Claire Picchi presented the two with their long service certificate and various gifts.

Speaking after the presentation Susan said:
“I was working at another care home as a deputy home manager, but I was not happy with the standard of care.

“A friend of mine worked for MHA Allesley Hall and she had been there 20 years and told me how good it was so I thought I would try it.

“I really enjoy working for MHA because I like the high standard of care we have here, and the residents are always put first.

“Receiving the recognition award was a surprise, I felt really honoured and I cried, I was lost for words for the first time!

“I have always recommended MHA to people outside of work, it’s an amazing organisation to work for and they have always really supported me.

Yvonne added: “I have learnt a lot in my 10 years, I have made lots of friends and built good relationships with our residents.

“You have to have a good relationship with them as they depend on staff to look after them.

“To be honest when I joined I didn’t think I would stay, they were still building the home when I first came here and I stayed for only about 2 months, later I thought I would give it another go and I am still here.

“The management team brought us flowers, chocolates and gave our award in front of residents and staff.

“I am dedicated and I love the job, I just love it.

“The advice I would give to someone thinking of working in care is to be honest up front and talk about what role you want to do and if you need support they will be there to help.

“Always follow the good people and you will be alright”.
