Southwark Care Home Welcomes Danish Minister on Fact-Finding Visit
Agincare recently welcomed Denmark’s Minister for Senior Citizens Mette Kierkgaard and a high-level delegation to Waterside Care Home in Southwark as part of a fact-finding visit to the UK.
Joining the Minister was Denmark’s Ambassador, Kristina Miskowiak Beckvard, and representatives from leading Danish businesses, to focus on emerging technology and best practice in the health and social care sector.
Agincare Group Chief Executive Raina Summerson led a tour of Waterside, introducing residents, nurses, care workers and a GP, while highlighting the home’s pioneering partnership with Southwark Council, represented by Cllr Evelyn Akoto, Cabinet Member for Health & Wellbeing.
Denmark’s Minister for Senior Citizens, Mette Kierkgaard, said: “It was truly inspiring to witness the approach to personalised care and see how technology functioned as a completely natural supporting element, rather than something foreign and external.
“I was happy to learn that Waterside Care Home shares the same vision of a care sector grounded in a holistic and personalised approach to long-term care. After my visit, I am even more convinced that this is the only way forward.”
The Agincare team also attended an event at the Danish Embassy, which saw Group Chief Executive Raina Summerson join a panel to share Agincare’s wide experience across care settings nationwide.
Raina said: “Over two days, we were proud to share ideas, learn from one another and showcase the important work taking place across the UK’s health and social care sectors. The visit strengthened existing connections, created new ones, and laid firm foundations for future collaboration. Plans are already in motion to build on these relationships.”
The programme featured updates on Agincare’s growth, international recruitment initiatives, and its partnership with Southwark Council to support people leaving hospital to return to the community safely and without delay.
Jon Petch from AMBA Health and Care delivered a presentation on evolving responsive technology in care, before the event closed with questions from the delegation.
The Waterside team were commended Ms Kierkgaard for hosting the visit, with the catering team, led by the home’s Chef Joan Richards earning warm praise for the catering, including specially prepared Danish dishes.
