Residents Roll Up Their Sleeves for Caterham Care Home Makeover

Residents and staff at Buxton Lodge care home in Caterham have taken pride in refreshing the home’s reception and entrance areas, working together to create a warmer welcome for visitors and loved ones.

Residents and team members jointly choose colour schemes, artwork and finishing touches, before rolling up their sleeves to help with the painting and decorating. The result is a brighter, more inviting space that truly reflects the people who live and work there.

Among those involved were residents Miroslaw Machos and Jane Leigh, who were delighted to play a hands-on role in shaping the look and feel of their home helping turn the refurbishment into a shared experience, fostering a strong sense of ownership and community spirit.

The makeover has been warmly received by residents, families and visitors alike, with many commenting on how welcoming and homely the entrance now feels like a space created by the very people who call Buxton Lodge home.

Part of Aurem Care, Buxton Lodge places a strong emphasis on resident involvement and person-centred living, ensuring that people are actively encouraged to make decisions about their environment and daily life.

The home’s manager Beckie Condie said: “Seeing residents and staff working side by side on this project has been really special. It’s not just about fresh paint and new pictures, it’s about people feeling proud of their home and having a say in how it looks and feels. The reception is the first thing visitors see, and now it truly reflects the warmth, personality and sense of community that exists within Buxton Lodge.”
