Residents at Altrincham Home Mark Talk Like A Pirate Day with Pirate Themed Activities and Photoshoot
Residents at an Altrincham home marked Talk Like A Pirate Day with a day packed full of pirate themed activities.
The idea came off the back of a very successful event earlier in the year, Gorgeous Grandma Day, a day dedicated to honouring and appreciating the beauty, wisdom, and vitality of grandmothers.
Gorgeous Grandma Day was dedicated to the female residents at the home, so activity coordinator Charlotte Fowkes was always keen to do the same for the male residents.
Some of the gents living at MHA Handsworth spend time practising pirate talk and listening to pirate jokes as well as listening to sea shanties.
The home arranged for the residents to pop on their bandanas and pirate hats and gave them temporary tattoos which went down a treat.
To conclude they had a photoshoot dressed up as pirates with props such as treasure maps, parrots and a telescope.
Speaking after the day, Charlotte said: “I was always looking for a way to get our male residents together and thought Talk Like A Pirate Day would be perfect.
“We put on some sea shanties and created a lively atmosphere.
“We cordoned off a section of our conservatory and made the area special for them and arranged for the props and banners to be displayed.
“It was nice to see the gents get involved and I think they really enjoyed dressing up.
“They had a great time, they spent the day talking about the past and had some stories about their time in the army, which has some similarities to pirates and their mannerisms.”
