“Patience And Give And Take” Say Resident Couple Who Celebrate 68th Wedding Anniversary

A resident couple living at a Hastings home marked their 68th wedding anniversary and say the secret to a long marriage is patience and give and take.

Pat and Reg Douglas both live at MHA Lauriston and celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary with an intimate party.

The home arranged for Reg to receive his favourite chocolates and some flowers for Pat on their special day.

The couple lived in Ifield before moving into MHA Lauriston in December 2024 and have two children Julia and Stuart.

Reg worked as an engineer and specialist instrument worker whilst Pat worked in administration.

Staff at the home decorated their room with banners and balloons and the kitchen team prepared a celebration cake for the two.

Emma Lawlor, activity coordinator said:
“We wanted to make sure we marked the wedding anniversary for the two as it is a big achievement.

“Both of them don’t really like a fuss, so we made sure the celebrations were low key.

“They had a wonderful day and were very appreciative of the work staff had done for them.

“Their granddaughter and great grandchild came to visit them on the day which was really nice for them.

“They are an adorable couple, when I asked them what their secret to a long and happy marriage was, they both replied you have to have patience and there needs to be some give and take.”
