Parley Place Helps Resident Relive A Moment From Her Past

Resident, Beryl at Parley Place care home had always wanted to relive a trip on a motorbike, so staff at the home made her wish a reality proving the old adage, it’s never too late.

Beryl has lived at Parley Place for over a year now and is loved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making her dream come true in style, they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Beryl’s  face when her dream was realised.

We held a bike show back in June and at the time Beryl just looked around but we knew she was keen to get on a bike, so we recreated our event with cars, bikes and scooters. Riders from the Top Hat Riders and Grumpy Grandad’s were pleased to come and be a part of this for our residents. When Beryl saw them her passion was ignited again. This time she went straight over to the group of bikers and said “Can I have a go then?!”  – thinking we would say no she was shocked when we said “yes, here’s your helmet!”

In response to this wonderful surprise, Beryl said:
“I’m 97 years old, I didn’t think I could go on a bike again, it was such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to live out a dream – and I didn’t even ask.”

Gina,  General Manager at the home, said:
“We believe that every moment is worth cherishing.  We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Parley Place, It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.  It was wonderful to see how happy Beryl was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well.”
