Murrayfield House Care Home Celebrates Onam with Colour, Joy and Togetherness
Residents and colleagues at HC-One Scotland’s Murrayfield House Care Home in Edinburgh came together to celebrate the festival of Onam with an afternoon full of cultural activities, colour and community spirit.
Onam, a harvest festival originating from Kerala in southern India, is steeped in rich mythology. It commemorates the Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu, the beloved return of Emperor Mahabali, and traditions linked to Kashyapa and Parashurama. Known as a festival of unity, joy and cultural heritage, Onam brings people together regardless of background or belief.
The celebrations at Murrayfield House reflected these values, with residents and colleagues enjoying traditional games, music and decorations. The home was filled with laughter, warmth and a sense of togetherness, while colleagues also shared the cultural significance of Onam, helping to create an educational and inclusive experience for all.
The event was part of Murrayfield House’s ongoing commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where cultural traditions are celebrated and shared. By marking occasions such as Onam, the home aims to promote understanding, connection and unity among residents, colleagues and visitors.
As the home looks ahead to autumn, plans are underway for cosy seasonal activities, including Harvest Festival celebrations and events to mark the transition into the colder months.
