Market Lavington Care Home Welcomes Melksham and Devizes MP Dr Brian Mathew

Residents and colleagues at HC-One’s Market Lavington Care Home, near Devizes, Wiltshire, welcomed a special visitor, when Dr Brian Mathew, MP for Melksham and Devizes, stopped by for a tour and a chat.

Dr Mathew was given a warm welcome by residents and colleagues, who enjoyed the opportunity to share their experiences of life at Market Lavington Care Home – a valued part of the local Wiltshire community.

During his visit, Dr Mathew explored the home’s facilities, including the hair salon, lounge, bedrooms, and gardens, while meeting residents and hearing about the activities and support available at the 79-bed care home, which offers residential, nursing, residential dementia, and nursing dementia care.

Loneliness and the home’s approach to tackling it was a key topic of conversation throughout the visit as Dr Mathew engaged in meaningful conversation with residents on how this is being tackled both within and outside the home.

Anitha Jisson, Home Manager at HC-One’s Market Lavington Care Home, said:
“It was a real pleasure to welcome Dr Brian Mathew to Market Lavington. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed meeting him and sharing their stories, and it was wonderful to see their voices heard and valued. Visits like this help strengthen our connection with the wider community and highlight the importance of the care sector.”

Dr Brian Mathew, MP for Melksham and Devizes, commented:
“It was a privilege to visit Market Lavington Care Home and to speak with both staff and residents.

“I know that loneliness is a reality for many older people, and it was good to chat with residents about how they are combating this. It was also great to talk politics – both local and global – with so many engaged residents.

“I also took time to speak with staff who are facing issues with local transport as well as visa sponsorships.”
