Lisa’s Care Home Boot Camp Boosts Lisa’s Great Wall Walk

Residents at Edgehill Care Home in Swindon have swapped armchairs for action by joining manager Lisa Edwards on training walks as she gears up for the challenge of a lifetime: a five-day trek along China’s iconic Great Wall.

With just days to go, Lisa’s ‘care home boot camp’ has seen residents, relatives and  staff, rally around her to clock up laps of the garden or cheer on from the sidelines in solidarity.

Lisa, who has worked at Edgehill for over 19 years, with the last six as registered manager, is tackling the trek to raise funds for Prospect Hospice in Wroughton.

The hospice cared for her late sister, Lynsey, and continues to support Edgehill Care Home and nearby Agincare home, Lansdowne Hill, with training and end-of-life care.

Lisa said: “This is the biggest challenge of my life, it’s completely out of my comfort zone on many, many levels.

“But I’m doing it in memory of my sister Lynsey who received such great care in her final days at Prospect Hospice, and to give back to help fund the hospice and the vital role it plays in our community.

“The support from everyone at Edgehill has been incredible. They’ve walked with me, cheered me on, and helped me smash my £4,000 fundraising target.”

With tough terrain to tackle, Lisa and her fellow trekkers will follow a remote route along the wall from Gubeikou to Jinshanling and Simtai, experiencing authentic local culture along the way.
