Leeds United Fan of Nearly 70 Years Enjoys U Match Day Thanks to Rievaulx House Care Home

Residents at HC-One’s Rievaulx House Care Home in Armley, Leeds, enjoyed an unforgettable football experience last week, thanks to the generosity of Leeds United Football Club, who donated two tickets to the highly anticipated Liverpool vs Leeds match at Elland Road.

Dennis Russell, a lifelong Leeds supporter who has been attending games since 1957, was thrilled to return to the stands once again. He was accompanied by Activities Coordinator James Duff, who helped make the afternoon a memorable and meaningful outing.

Braving the early rain, the pair took their seats in the family stand, just four rows from the pitch and soaked up the electric atmosphere. After a tense first half with neither side taking control, Leeds found themselves two goals down shortly after the break. But the Elland Road spirit quickly sparked into life, as the home side responded with a successful penalty and another goal just two minutes later.

As the crowd leapt to their feet, Dennis rose with them, propping himself up with his walking stick so he wouldn’t miss a second of the action. His determination matched that of the team on the pitch, and he remained standing for the rest of the match. In a thrilling finish, Leeds netted an equaliser deep into stoppage time, securing a dramatic draw and sending the stadium into celebration.

James Duff said: “It was so gratifying to see Dennis cheering his heart out when Leeds scored. Despite the rain and the cold, Dennis’ spirits and energy were clearly lifted by the opportunity to see his beloved team play again.”

Dennis added: “What a game! I won’t be forgetting that any time soon.”
