Former First Minister Praises Glasgow Care Home In Celebration Of Its 25th Anniversary
Florence House, part of the Oakminster Healthcare, celebrated a landmark milestone – 25 years in operation.
The Govan care home has been a staple of the local community for a quarter of a century and now the Scottish Parliament has recorded its impact in history.
Local MSP, Humza Yousaf, submitted a motion to mark the achievement of the home and celebrate all the community work it has undertaken over the years.
Staff and residents were given commemorative certificates to celebrate the achievement.
The motion reads: That the Parliament celebrates Florence House Care Home, Govan, on its 25th anniversary; commends the care home for its recent care inspectorate report, which, it understands, praised the care that it was providing across the board; understands that person-centred outcomes are at the heart of Florence House’s ethos; notes that it offers a range of activities, including cooking classes in its skills kitchen, silent disco, fitness classes, games cafe, and football activities, all designed to enable residents to improve their mobility and cognitive abilities; considers that its efforts to involve residents in the community by linking up with local groups like Govan Men’s Shed, Gilded Lily, walking groups, and many others, provides residents with a sense of inclusion, belonging, and fulfilment; echoes the care home’s belief that it is never too late to achieve your goals and live a fun and fulfilled life; thanks the management, staff and volunteers for their hard work and dedication to improving lives for the past 25 years, and wishes everyone all the very best for the future.
Nick McLean, Manager at Florence House, said:
“Many of our residents, particularly those in our Young, Physically Disabled (YPD) unit, have deep roots in Govan – it’s where they grew up, went to school, and built their lives.”
“Keeping them connected to the community isn’t just a nice idea, it’s essential to their wellbeing. We’re proud to provide a space where residents still feel part of the wider world around them.”
Sunita Poddar, chief executive officer and founder of Oakminster Healthcare said:
“We were very honoured to see Humza Yousaf MSP lodge of a motion at the Scottish Parliament to celebrating Florence House turning 25 years old.”
“Since our doors first opened, we’ve been at the heart of the Govan community. Whether through partnerships with local groups like the Men’s Shed and walking clubs, or through our dedicated staff who consistently go above and beyond to support residents and their families. We take immense pride in the contributions we make to our community.
“We would like to thank Mr Yousaf for his kind words and look forward to continuing to serve the Govan community for many years to come.”
