First-Year Nursing Students from the University of Nottingham Visit Coppice Lodge

HC-One’s Coppice Lodge Care Home in Arnold, Nottingham, recently welcomed a group of first-year nursing students from the University of Nottingham for an engaging learning experience focused on the theme of communication and its different forms.

The visit offered students the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience in communicating with older adults, while residents enjoyed the chance to meet new faces and share their own life stories. Together, students and residents took part in a range of activities designed to encourage conversation, connection, and laughter, before coming together for a lively group session to finish the day.

The event was such a success that Home Manager Ken Buxton expressed interest in making these visits a regular part of life at Coppice Lodge, stating:
“Our residents really enjoyed spending time with the students and reminiscing about their past. It was lovely to see how naturally the conversations flowed and how much everyone got from the experience. We’d love to make this a regular activity, it’s great for our residents and also helps future NHS staff develop important communication skills.”
