County Tradition Of Cheese Rolling To Take Place In Care Home
A Cotswold care home and retirement village are taking on the famous local tradition of Cheese Rolling on Saturday 20 September.
Gloucestershire Day has not been celebrated since 2023 but this has not stopped Aura Care Living’s Stratton Court, in Cirencester, coming up with their own way to pay tribute and homage to the region.
The village, in Stratton, Cirencester, will not be rolling, or falling down Gloucester’s Cooper Hill, but will be competing via a purpose-built ramp, in teams, each led by a resident, with various heats, before a winner or winning team is chosen by a panel of judges, for their prowess, speed and cheese rolling technique.
The event, “will also involve live music, great food, stalls, local cider and farm yard vibes,” said Stratton Court manager, Jared Mein. The event is free, begins at and open to all, so please come down and join us.
Stratton Court director, Peter Lloyd said:
“We put it to the staff and residents what they wanted to do, something that represented Gloucestershire. I think it started off as a joke but it is now happening, and if I get selected, I am going to win.”
