Batter Late Than Never, Care Homes Battle In Flip For Glory

Residents at Aura Care Living’s Stratton Court in Cirencester battles in a ‘flip for victory’ this Shrove Tuesday as they took on sister home Kings Lodge in Camberley in a light-hearted – but hotly contested – Pancake Day challenge.

On Tuesday 17 February 2026, the two homes went head-to-head in a live pancake flipping competition hosted over Zoom. The rules are simple but far from easy: each home’s chosen resident will have one minute to complete as many full pancakes flips as possible – keeping the pancake firmly in the pan and successfully turning it over in the air. The resident with the most clean, complete flips before the clock runs out will be crowned this year’s Pancake Champion.

Care managers Yasemin Ucan, at Stratton Court and Sarah Parkin, at Kings Lodge, carefully selected a resident to represent their home, with both competitors already said to be “in training” ahead of the big day. Staff and fellow residents will be cheering them on, creating a lively atmosphere in both homes as the friendly rivalry unfolds.

The virtual event was not only designed not only to celebrate Pancake Day in style but also to strengthen the connection between the two Aura Care Living communities. By hosting the competition over Zoom, residents in Cirencester and Camberley will be able to share the excitement together in real time, despite being miles apart.

Events like this form part of Aura Care Living’s ongoing commitment to meaningful activities that promote wellbeing, social interaction and fun. Pancake Day has long been a favourite in the homes’ activity calendars, but this year’s inter-home contest adds an extra competitive twist.

The winners were Stratton Courts Margaret with 10 and Tina, with fifteen flips.

Sales Director Peter Lloyd said:
“Events like our Pancake Day challenge are a wonderful way to bring our homes together and celebrate the personalities and talents of our residents. It’s not just about flipping pancakes – it’s about laughter, confidence, community spirit and creating shared memories. We’re incredibly proud of both homes for embracing the fun and can’t wait to see who takes home the title – may the best flipper win.”
