Mayor Cuts Ribbon at Bournemouth Care Home’s New Men’s Shed
The Mayor of Bournemouth has cut the ribbon on a new men’s club at a care home, bringing residents together to share skills and enjoy practical activities.
Cllr Roberto Rocca visited Castle Dene care home on Throop Road in Bournemouth, which is operated by not-for-profit charity Care South, to officially launch the Castle Dene Men’s Shed.
During the opening, Cllr Rocca met members of the club, who paint and use tools to work on a variety of projects, while chatting about the various skills they have picked up over the years. The Men’s Shed’s current project involves painting and redecorating a shed in the home’s garden, which will be used to store materials to be used in future projects.
Members also enjoy trips out on the Care South minibus to visit local pubs, museums and other places of interest that bring back happy memories.
The Mayor of Bournemouth said: “It’s great to see the residents and team getting involved in the Men’s Shed. It was nice to see them painting and doing practical projects that involve some physical activity, which they seemed to really enjoy. The care home team are doing a great job of bringing residents together. I’m really impressed with the home.”
Afterwards, The Mayor also met other residents taking part in activities around the home, including a chair-based keep-fit class.
Laura Reilly, Home Manager at Castle Dene, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Bournemouth to officially open our Men’s Shed. He was keen to chat to our residents to find out more about the club. We’ve had our own men’s club for many years and decided to expand this into a Men’s Shed, where residents can continue using the skills they have learned over the years. It’s lovely to see residents coming together to share their knowledge, work on projects and enjoy doing something practical, with the opportunity to make a difference to others too.”
