Middlesbrough Care Home Offers Sporting Chance

The Gables set to host series of exercise and social sessions for men over 50

A care home in Middlesbrough is offering men over the age of 50 a sporting chance to get more active and lead healthier lifestyles in 2015.

The Gables will be host venue to Sporting Chance, a new Big Lottery Fund project in conjunction with Middlesbrough Council, which offers men aged 50 and over a combination of exercise and socialising with others in friendly local settings around the town.

Older men are being invited to attend an initial taster session at 2.30pm on Tuesday 27 January at the Gables care home to gauge interest and get feedback on the activities they would like to see included in the programme.

The initiative, led by volunteer group CSV RSVP and delivered by instructors from Middlesbrough Council’s Sports Development Team, is exclusively for men and led by men, with activities including physical exercise, reminiscence sessions and organised trips within the region and further afield.

Liz Jones, Customer Relations Officer at Hill Care, said: “We are delighted that Sporting Chance will be coming to the Gables and offering men over 50 an opportunity to exercise and socialise – two vital components in ensuring older members of the community are leading a happy and fulfilling life.

“There will be something for everyone, from armchair exercise through to badminton, and we would encourage men to come along and see what the programme can offer them.”

If you would like to attend Sporting Chance, there is no need to wear any specialist clothing or bring any equipment for the taster sessions, participants are invited to drop in and stay as long as they wish.

Sporting Chance will be at the Gables care home from 2.30pm on Tuesday 27th January 2015. For further information please contact The Gables care home on 01642 515345.
