Ten Barchester Homes Declared Centres Of Excellence

Ten Barchester Healthcare homes have been declared Centres of Excellence for Learning and Development.  Each home was awarded the accolade yesterday at an awards ceremony at the Westminster Kingsway College, London.

Dr Terry Tucker, Director of Learning and Organisational Development, said: “Becoming a Barchester Centre of Excellence for Learning and Development is an opportunity for us to recognise the great work that teams at our homes across the country are doing. These centres are now ready to offer excellent student nurse placements, preceptorship programmes, overseas nursing programmes and return to practice programmes. will demonstrate that your home has the right learning environment to do this.”

Celebrity chef, Paul Rankin, who helped developed the chef apprenticeship programme at the Barchester Business School, cooked alongside Barchester chefs at the ceremony to showcase the skills they have picked up from their training workshops. All of these chefs started off as apprentices with and now train and assess others.

Martin Green, Chair of ECCA (English Community Care Association), said, “Barchester continues to prove it is an exceptional and unique care home provider, placing a high value on  the respect of residents and employees, and constantly striving to do better.  The establishment of the Barchester Business School not only shows that Barchester is a quality care provider but also demonstrates that the company recognises the value of everyone working within Barchester Healthcare.

Dr Glen Mason, Director of People, Communities and Local Government with the Department of Health, said, “At the Department of Health we know what matters to service users is the connection between them as an individual and their carer.  The key ingredient of getting that interaction right is the quality of learning and development and this is something Barchester invests in and excels at.”
