Silver Song Music Box Musical Therapy To Be Made Available As An App

Vima-2_0Charity Sing For Your Life has unveiled plans to make its award-winning Silver Song Club Music Box available as an app for the iPad, iPhone and Android, opening up the musical therapy to thousands with dementia from March.

Until now, Silver Song Clubs, which have been medically proven to raise mood and support convalescence in people with long-term conditions, have only been available as facilitated group sessions.

The recent G8 Dementia Summit highlighted that more than 500,000 people in the UK are living at home in isolation with life-ending conditions, but Sing For Your Life founder Stuart Brown hopes to extend the therapeutic benefits of accompanied singing to as wide an audience as possible.

“Several thousand adults across the UK are already reaping the social, restorative and life enriching benefits that Sing For Your Life Silver Song Clubs provide, either in day centres, care homes or hospitals,” said Brown.

“Our ambition is to make Silver Song Clubs available to everyone via the mobile Silver Song Club Music Box Apps. Singing is proven to be a great energiser and there is clinical research to back this up.”

The charity has already made Sing For Your Life on iPad, an information-only app that provides background information on Silver Song Clubs and details the values and benefits that singing activities brings to older people and to those living with life limiting illnesses.

It also provides examples of how professional and family carers, as well as to potential Silver Song Club hosts, can use the Silver Song Club Music Box to improve the quality of life of those in their care.
