Yarm Care Home Mark Queen’s 90th Birthday And Residents Celebrate St. George’s Day

ReubornTo celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday Reuben Manor Activity Co-ordinators Ann Smith & Elly Preston made sure the home was decorated with all things British and the residents were treated to sherry and a buffet. The celebrations were kicked off with a performance by the Seasonal Singers singing all the old time favourites, God Save the Queen and Happy Birthday followed by a royal quintessential English buffet for residents, families and friends.

Activity Co-ordinator Ann Smith said “ As the Queen’s birthday is such a big milestone we thought it would be a good opportunity for our residents to express their appreciation.”

Julie Peyton, Home Manager at Reuben Manor said “Our residents are huge admirers of the Queen, many being as similar age to her Majesty, and they remember the Coronation at Westminster Abbey in 1953.”

A few days later they then went on to celebrate St. George’s Day. The rooms are filled with flags, bunting and hats. Residents enjoyed music and singer from the resident singer Mr Dave Williams, quizzes and garden games held throughout the day and were treated to a traditional cream tea and patriotic red white and blue themed cakes.

Residents enjoyed recalling their youthful exploits, telling tales about how they used to spend St. George’s Day when they were younger and what the day means to them.
