St Monica Trust Wins ‘Best Employer’ Award

The St Monica Trust won the Best Employer of over 250 staff award at the Skills for Care Accolades Awards 2017, which were held in Liverpool last week (Thursday 9 March).

St Monica Trust employs more than 1,400 people across its four retirement communities in Bristol and North Somerset and its care at home service in Henleaze. It’s newest development, The Chocolate Quarter is due to open in Keynsham in autumn 2017 and will employ a further 250 people.

The Skills for Care Accolades awards celebrate the achievements of the best employers in adult social care.

Judges were impressed with the Trust’s commitment to setting its lowest rate of pay at 5% above the National Living Wage, regardless of age and initiatives, such as the annual family fun day which is open to all staff and their families.

The St Monica Trust’s Director of People, Julie Haydon said:

“We’re all extremely proud for the Trust to be acknowledged as one of the best employers in the UK care sector.

“The St Monica Trust aims to be an employer of choice and we want to attract excellent people who share our values. We then need to make sure we hold on to these great people, and so are continually looking at ways to strengthen our employment offering.

“Whilst this means ensuring that the benefits we offer are as good as they can be, it’s also about promoting a positive workplace where colleagues feel supported, happy and valued.”

Skills for Care’s Chair, Dame Moira Gibb CBE, said:

“On behalf of the Skills for Care board I want to offer sincere congratulations to the St Monica Trust. Just to be here is a major achievement because the competition was fierce as the quality of entries was as high as ever.

“We are working in very challenging times and what unites all our impressive winners is not just their clear commitment to supporting the learning and development of their people, but an ability to be innovative in the way they deliver care and support services.”

The award was presented by Coronation Street actress, Samia Ghadie and accepted on behalf of the Trust by Training and Development Partner, Becky Griffin and Care Home Manager, Jackie Green.
