Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner at Care Home’s First Film Club Meeting

Residents at The Elms, the Croftwood Care-run residential care home in Cheshire, ‘had the time of their lives’ during the home’s very first film club screening and discussion. The inaugural movie was 80s’ classic, Dirty Dancing, as voted by the home’s resident film buffs.

Residents are able to vote for which film will be shown at the next film club meeting, before gathering each fortnight to enjoy the most popular pick with all the cinema trimmings. The screening is then followed by a discussion about the film, its characters and its best moments.

The idea for a residents’ film club was put forward by a number of cinephiles at the home, and organised by Activity Coordinator, Julie Parkinson.

Nicola Brennan, Home Manager at The Elms, commented: “Everyone at The Elms thoroughly enjoyed the film club’s first meeting. One of our top priorities is providing person-centred care tailored to our residents’ needs. We offer a variety of activities to our residents and endeavour to fulfil any requests for new activities.

“Activities such as the film club are important in bringing together the residents for reminiscence and discussion of their shared interests. Voting has already started on the next film and we’re all looking forward to seeing what it might be!”
