New Chief Executive For Alzheimer’s Research UK As Charity Launches First National Advertising Campaign

Hilary Evans, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UKAlzheimer’s Research UK, under the new leadership of Hilary Evans, is launching its first TV and cinema advertising campaign to promote the power of research to tackle dementia.

There are over 850,000 people in the UK now living with dementia and the number is expected to rise to two million by 2050 unless an effective treatment can be found.

Hilary Evans, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity, said:

“Today’s generation has reaped the benefits of our investment in research for killer diseases like cancer or heart disease. Dementia is a killer too and just like these other diseases investment in research is the key to preventing and treating dementia. This year 225,000 people in the UK will develop dementia, that’s one every three minutes. The ambition for Alzheimer’s Research UK is to find a treatment in the next 10 years. If people understand that defeating dementia is within sight, our generation will sign up for trials in greater numbers, lobby for funding and produce the specialist researchers we need to make more rapid progress.”

Hilary Evans was formally Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Director of External Affairs. Her passion and drive has meant that dementia research is better funded and better supported in labs and hospitals across the UK, with a record number of people now taking part in research, both as scientists and as participants in clinical trials. She has driven the development of the charity’s new awareness advertising campaign, which launches today.

Before joining Alzheimer’s Research UK Hilary led the campaigning work at Age UK, improving the lives of people in later life.

David Mayhew, Chairman of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:

“Hilary is a tremendous asset to Alzheimer’s Research UK which has been demonstrated through her significant impact in promoting and developing the organisation.”

Alzheimer’s Research UK’s campaign launches on Monday 1 June. The advert will air on major TV channels and cinemas across the UK throughout June and will air on ITV 1 during Emmerdale. The advert can also be viewed at www.alzheimersresearchuk.org and at https://youtu.be/f0YLcLxB77Y
