Mabel Celebrates ‘Healthy Living, Honesty And Lots Of Laughter’ On 105th Birthday

105Mabel Glover, a resident of Ingersley Court care home in Macclesfield, celebrated her 105th birthday surrounded by well-wishers with a special party at the home.

With help from staff at the CLS-run home, Mabel celebrated her big day alongside her family and friends. Partygoers enjoyed birthday cake and a good sing-along with entertainment from classically trained soloist Helen England – one of Mabel’s favourite singers.

Born and raised on Old Hall Street in Macclesfield, Mabel left school at 14 years old to work at Brocklefield Whiston Amalgamated (BWA) silk mill, where she worked her way across the production floor doing ring spinning and winding. At 18, Mabel married her childhood friend, Garnet Leslie Glover, and they lived happily together for 72 years before he passed away aged 89.

Mabel, who moved to Ingersley Court in 2013, believes that ‘healthy living, honesty and lots of laughter’ are the secrets to long life. In her spare time, Mabel enjoys watching films, playing bingo and doing ‘anything that’s fun’. When ask how it felt to turn 105, Mabel replied: “No different than any other birthday!”

Janice Johnson, Home Manager at Ingersley Court, commented: “Mabel is a wonderful lady who is always laughing and smiling. To meet her, nobody would believe that she’s actually 105! She loves life and always gets involved in any activities that we put on. We were delighted to join in the fun and help Mabel celebrate her special day, and everyone at Ingersley Court would like to wish her many happy returns.”
