London Woman With Rare Dementia To Share Experience At Dedicated Event
Grandmother Trina Armstrong will talk about her experience of living with a rare form of dementia at this year’s Alzheimer’s Show at London Olympia.
Trina, who lives with and is supported by her husband Graeme, was diagnosed with posterior cortical atrophy (PCA) in 2013. They will share their journey from pre-diagnosis to now at the show on Saturday 9 June.
Trina said:
“PCA has meant that the connection between my eyes and my brain is broken. It makes everyday things, like picking out clothes and putting the radio on, a challenge.
“One day I hope researchers will be able to tackle PCA and the other diseases that cause dementia.”
Alzheimer’s Research UK will return to the show on June 8 and 9 as the event’s Research Partner. Charity supporters Andy Watts and Rosemary Westwell will also share their personal experience of dementia in the Talks and Topics section of the Show.
Speaker Dr David Reynolds, Chief Scientific Officer at Alzheimer’s Research UK, will give a talk on what is currently known about dementia, exploring the complex field of dementia research and where it is heading with the latest updates.
Dr Reynolds said:
“It is an exciting time to get involved in and support dementia research with considerable national and international focus on speeding up the key discoveries we need to develop new treatments for the diseases that cause dementia.
“I’m looking forward to sharing the latest news about dementia research and answering any questions people have about the progress being made.”
Alzheimer’s Research UK will have a stand (F6) at the event where people can drop in and find out more about the charity and the groundbreaking work it does.
There will also be an opportunity for people to pick up free information about dementia and find out more about how to get involved in research, as a member of the charity’s Dementia Research Infoline team will be on hand.
