Housekeeping And Catering Double Gold Award For Derby Heights Care Home

HousekeepingContinuing its first in the adult social care sector, Avery Healthcare, in collaboration with the CAP Awards (Continuous Advancement Programme), is delighted to announce that Avery’s Derby Heights Care Home in Derby has won a double Gold Award for both Housekeeping and Catering. This follows on from the same Double Gold award at its Crispin Court Care Home in Stafford.

The CAP Awards promote and reward excellence in Catering and Housekeeping, in hotels as well as care homes, schools and hospitals. Its aim is to raise standards in service and performance and to support the development of services for the benefit of the end user. The awards are based around a series of assessments and an unannounced visit to a service, with the primary focus being the standard of front line service delivery, and compliance to legal and regulatory best practice.

Davesh Kumar, Head of Hotel Services at Avery Group explains: “I wanted to recognise the hard work of the Housekeeping, Food & Beverage service and Culinary teams at Derby Heights; they all play a pivotal role in supporting daily operations and contribute to the well-being of residents. It’s important we recognise the hard work they do behind the scenes and through the CAP Awards we can congratulate them on their important contribution to the success of the home and to set the bar for raising standards across the sector.”

An independent CAP assessor made an un-announced visit when both teams were inspected. Both Catering and the Housekeeping Team scored highly and were considered to have gone beyond expectations to ensure attention to detail in each and every task.

Davesh added: “Only 15% of participants in the CAP Award Programme achieve a Gold – so we are extremely proud and delighted. From day one the Housekeeping, Culinary & Food and Beverage service teams were fully on board to prepare for this and they did not leave any stone unturned. During internal inspections in preparation for the CAP audit I found the team was at their best getting ready for the unannounced inspection. I have always found great attention to detail at Derby Heights; all department heads work in cooperation and with full commitment with their teams to maintain the standards every day; with the help of the CAP, the team has taken Hotel Services to the next level.

The project was overseen by Derby Heights Home Manager, Lance Bosmans. He was delighted with the achievement saying: “The team at Derby Heights have really come together to achieve this. The excitement and engagement was, and still is, quite overwhelming. We know we have a great team working at Derby Heights and this award is clear independent evidence. The CAP assessment was very in-depth and is an excellent tool and set of processes not only to highlight areas of improvement but also to reward the staff. Housekeeping and Catering staff contribute so much to the success of the home and residents’ well-being. What they do day in, day out, and their dedication, is key to the home’s success.
