Hoedown Showdown! Residents Of Local Care Home Celebrate National Care Home Open Day

HorseDovecote care home in High Spen welcomed the community in through their doors to celebrate National Care Home Open Day.

The doors of Dovecote were opened to the public for a Country-Western themed party. The day, which aims to highlight the fantastic care that happens across the UK, saw residents, relatives, friends and staff come together to celebrate.

The care home was truly transformed. The spacious living room was turned into a saloon, and straw bales and bunting were dotted throughout the home. Residents and their guests were also joined by a four-legged friend, a beautiful horse named Lady, and took delight in petting her during the afternoon. To top off the day, everyone tucked into Western-themed menu, complete with a cowboy hat cake.

A highlight of the day involved residents, visitors and staff alike enthusiastically taking part in a World Record attempt. Embrace Group, which runs Dovecote, teamed up with Oomph! – a social enterprise dedicated to enhancing the health and wellbeing of older adults – to challenge members of the Embrace family from across the country to participate in a national synchronised exercise class.

With 1,035 people having participated in the National Care Home Open Day Oomph! World Record challenge, there were celebrations all round as the previous record of 481 participants was well and truly bested.

Chelsey Jackson, Activities Coordinator at Dovecote care home, commented:

“We enjoy celebrating National Care Home Open Day every year, because we bring together old friends and new at Dovecote for a day of celebrations and fun. A great time was had by all this year, and residents truly felt part of their community.”
