“Forget-Me-Not” Café Big Hit With Local Community
A care home in Durham is helping residents and members of the community with dementia to build up a support network thanks to its ‘Forget Me Not’ café.
HC-One’s Grampian Court in Peterlee opened its doors to visitors for an afternoon tea, with Residents, Ivy and Irene, acting as ‘tea ladies’ to hungry guests.
Judith Tully, HC-One Care Home Manager at Grampian Court, commented: “The afternoon tea went down a storm with everyone who attended and Ivy and Irene were extremely attentive and courteous to residents.
“It’s important to us at Grampian Court that we provide a supportive environment where people with dementia can feel relaxed and secure. We’re looking forward to making these visits a regular occurrence.”
Residents Betty Pennock and Peggy Hart described the set up as ‘amazing’ and commented on ‘how nice the cups and saucers looked.’
Dementia cafes provide an opportunity for individuals living with the condition to curb feelings of loneliness and isolation whilst meeting like-minded people and undertaking stimulating activities to aid relaxation.
Members of the community will be able to take a tour of Grampian Court and discuss the ‘Forget Me Not’ café at an upcoming open day on 27thFebruary between 10am to 4pm. Visitors can enjoy refreshments, view available rooms and discuss care options with the home manager.
