Czajka Employees Show They Care About Getting More People Into The Industry

CzajkaFour members of Saltaire based Czajka Care Group’s team have become part of a special group of front line care staff that have been formed to inspire and encourage more people into the industry.

Known as ‘I Care Ambassadors’ Jean Robinson, Lynne Taylor and Janet Fryer from Czajka have become part of a national team of ambassadors which has been formed by the Skills For Care organisation to highlight the numerous jobs available in the industry. John Carrington from Czajka has also been made an ‘I Care Associate.’

John and the team of other ambassadors now visit schools, colleges and job centres across Yorkshire running a range of careers activities, offering advice and one to one question and answer sessions, as well as giving guided tours of the Czajka’s five care homes, so people can see what it is like to work in a care home for themselves.

John says: “It’s the perfect way for people to find out what it is like to work in care. We talk honestly and enthusiastically about our every day jobs to people who might be thinking about getting into the industry, and also to others who have never even considered it.

“Often the people we talk to have never stepped foot inside a care home, and many have preconceived ideas about what it is like to work in one. We are able to provide people with first-hand accounts of what a job in our homes entails, and most importantly they can meet our highly-trained and staff, as well as our valued residents. We are also able to give people a real insight into what it takes to work in care and we have found that these sessions are incredibly rewarding, both personally and in terms of the number of people who then go onto express an interest in working for us.”

In 2015 over 19,000 people attended the numerous ‘I Care’ events and activities run across the UK, and in January this year, the Skills For Care organisation published its annual survey results revealing that 90% of people attending the events rated them as very good or good. 83% of the ambassadors felt more motivated in their work having taken part in the scheme and 26% of attendees were more likely to get involved in a career in care as a result.

Czajka Care Group’s managing director Konrad Czajka, says: “Czajka Care Group has been at the forefront of the local care industry for more than 20 years and much of our success is based on our ability to attract and train talented staff. We have a 350-strong team and I am delighted that John, Jean, Lynne and Janet are helping to encourage the next generation of people into our industry.”

Skills for Care provides practical tools and support to help adult social care organisations in England recruit, develop and lead their workforce and it became the home of the National Skills Academy for Social Care in 2014.

Czajka Care Group owns and operates Fairmount Nursing Home, Brookfield Care Home and Staveley Birk Leas Nursing Home, which are all in Nab Wood near Shipley, as well as Currergate Nursing Home in Steeton and Beanlands Nursing Home in Cross Hills.  Czajka also provides purpose built retirement homes and operates The Clubhouse at Fairmount Park, which is a members only club with a wide range of leisure facilities.
