Ceremony Marks Official Opening Of Warwick Extra Care Scheme

A new £5.2million affordable housing scheme for older people has been officially opened by NCF member Housing & Care 21 in Warwick.

A ceremony was held on Friday October 23rd and a plaque was unveiled to mark the official launch of Rohan Gardens, one of our extra care schemes.

The scheme, in All Saints Road, is comprised of 42 self-contained, modern one and two-bedroom apartments with support and care services on site. Half of the apartments are offered at affordable rent and half at shared ownership.

Rohan Gardens was built by Willmott Dixon on our behalf in partnership with Warwickshire County Council and Warwick District Council and received a Homes & Communities Agency grant of £775k.

Kris Peach, our director of extra care, said: “We’re delighted to launch these new much-needed affordable homes in Warwick. These extra care apartments allow older people to maintain their independence and enjoy happy lives into old age. Residents have the benefit of having their own home as well as the ability to socialise with others and be part of a community. A care team is based on-site 24 hours a day and that gives residents and their families the peace of mind of knowing that support is there should they need it.”

Siobhan Moore, our head of development, said: “This is a fantastic scheme of high-quality affordable housing for older people. We have worked very closely with Willmott Dixon and both local authorities to deliver more affordable housing for Warwick and we are delighted to officially mark the completion of this project.”

The event was attended by a host of representatives from Housing & Care 21, Warwick District Council and Warwickshire County Council.

Coun Jose Compton, Warwickshire County Council’s cabinet member for adult social care, said: “This is a fantastic scheme which will give older generations the opportunity to live independently and safely in their own homes in the heart of the local community.  The scheme gives older people greater independence and control of their lives through purpose built, self-contained apartments, each with its own front door. It is a very real alternative to living in a residential care home.”

Rohan Gardens features communal facilities including a restaurant, residents’ lounge and laundry room, as well as landscaped gardens.
