Care Home Receives Recognition For Brain Injury Support

Shaw healthcare 2A Ledbury care home, which specialises in acquired brain injury services, has secured the prestigious Headway Approved Provider accreditation for the third time.

The two-year accreditation, which is awarded by the brain injury association, Headway, recognises Shaw healthcare’s Market Lodge as a leading provider of specialist care for people with an acquired brain injury (ABI).

Market Lodge provides residential care and transitional living for adults aged 18 to 65 who have received an acquired brain injury. Shaw healthcare works with individuals to develop ‘Person Centred’ care plans which focus specifically on the needs of the individual to ensure they receive the right level of support and include a range of treatments, including physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, group therapy and sensory rooms.

The staff at Market Lodge use a structured community access model which allows residents to build skills and confidence to help them integrate back into society. Residents are able to take part in community-based activities, such as work experience with local companies and charity shops, and college courses in IT, handicrafts, pottery and land management.

Lorraine Cooling, manager of Market Lodge, said: “I am delighted that we have once again received accreditation from Headway as an Approved Provider for another two years.

“This accreditation recognises our high standards and dedication to tailoring care to each individual. Headway is a highly respected organisation, and being featured on their Approved Provider database shows service users and their families that our facilities offer first-rate, bespoke care. The accreditation also demonstrates our commitment to continual improvement, and it is great to have all of the team’s hard work recognised.”

The Approved Provider scheme was developed by brain injury association Headway as a way of evaluating standards of ABI care and facilities. To gain Approved Provider status, units must demonstrate their provision of appropriate specialist care across a number of domains, including communication, culture, recreation and training.

The rigorous evaluation process also includes an in-depth on site assessment. Headway evaluators spend a day observing practices and speaking to managers, staff and service users. Detailed questionnaires are also distributed for feedback from service users’ families. The Headway accreditation is a sign of care quality, with Approved Providers featured on Headway’s searchable online database. This is an important tool used by patients and their families when deciding on a care service provider that best suits their needs.

Market Lodge is one of more than 80 sites operated by Shaw healthcare, one of the UK’s leading health and social care providers. It provides care to individuals in nursing and residential homes, hospitals, supported living arrangements, extra care schemes and domiciliary care settings.

Its services range from comprehensive care packages through to low level support in the community for older people and adults with physical, sensory or mental health support needs.
