Active Centenarian Reunites With Canadian Based Son During Birthday Celebrations

The sound of popping corks filled the corridor of HC-One’s Milbrook Care Centre in Stalybridge recently as Ida Duffy received a memorable visit from her son David, who travelled over from Vancouver especially for the day.

The centenarian was joined by daughter-in-law Hilary, granddaughter Clare and two great-grandsons Ethan and Ryan, as well as daughters, Margaret and Barbara, who led the birthday tributes.

Councillor Joyce Bowerman, Civic Mayor of Tameside, was also in attendance as the birthday girl received visits from close friends and family, as well as Father Simon from her church in Droylsden.

Odette Wilson, HC-One Care Home Manager at Milbrook Care Centre, commented: “It was a brilliant day marking such an amazing milestone and we were thrilled that she could spend it surrounded by two generations of her family.

“Ida is a lovely lady who joins in all of the activities we put on, including regular trips to the pub. She certainly doesn’t look 100!”

Other residents at the home delighted in viewing the congratulatory birthday card that Ida received from the Queen, whilst a local entertainer provided entertainment for the day.

Milbrook Care Centre is a purpose built care home offering residential care to elderly ladies and gentlemen in Tameside. The home’s caring team have created a welcoming, family atmosphere in which residents are encouraged to partake in community events and join in on birthday celebrations, trips out and a varied schedule of activities.
