The Carer’s ‘Unsung Hero of Care’ Announced!

We are absolutely delighted (and proud) to announce the winner of our “Unsung Hero of Care”!

Picking a winner has been possibly the most difficult job we have had in 2017. We received many wonderfully inspiring nominations for individual carers, care homes and care institutions. It frankly made us very proud to be part of such a magnificent industry, which does not get the recognition it so richly deserves!

We all found it quite a humbling experience to read of the dedication, hard work, warmth and affection individuals and teams in care environments have gone to enhance the lives of those they care for.

As we say it was a very difficult job to pick a winner, almost impossible in fact so we have decided to add on two runners-up with two extra £50 Marks & Spencer vouchers!

We were so very sorry that we could not give a prize to everybody!

Our very worthy winner we are delighted to say is Sam Buckley of The Boynes Care Centre, in Worcestershire a 39 bedroomed residential nursing care home specialising in dementia care.

Sam was nominated by her manager for her wonderful enthusiasm and dedication and for her compassionate work with residents and helping promote the home, introducing many new initiatives. £100 worth of Marks & Spencer vouchers is on the way today!

We were also delighted since it was almost impossible to pick an individual winner from the many many wonderful uplifting nominations we received, to add runners-up:

Angela O’Connor of Chase Dale care home in Northumberland who was nominated by her manager for her devoted care and attention with residents in the end stages of dementia. Angela is a long-standing carer who through her work has won the respect of her colleagues, residents and resident families, often going far beyond her role as a carer.

We were also delighted to include the team of the Jean Garwood House, in South Croydon as a runner-up a charity home dedicated to supporting people with disabilities. The home and the team have gained a wonderful reputation locally with social services as a last resort for disabled people in need, displaying exceptionally high standards of professionalism and dedication and have gone to great lengths in developing the capabilities of disabled residents improving their quality of life.

£50 worth of Marks & Spencer vouchers are on the way to our two runners-up!

Congratulations to Sam, Angela and the team at Jean Garwood house, and also a very big congratulations and thank you to all the nominations we received – we are so very sorry we couldn’t award a prize to you all! It was very difficult to pick a winner, and we would like to say what a credit you all are to the industry!
